Road to Ipoh: Kaya Puff

Trays of freshly baked, flaky golden brown puffs filled with delightful ‘kaya’. Sounds tempting when you read this right? If you are looking for this tasty and fluffy kaya puffs Sin Eng Heong is where you head to.

A box of 5 delicious kaya puffs to satisfy those cravings for something sweet and flaky.
Kaya puff - Small (5 pieces in a box) - RM5
                                                              - Big (10 pieces in a box) - RM10

This business which has been around for almost 50 years was first started by the Ngs'. This confectionery business has since expanded to a double shop lot. Their daughter Elaine now operates the sales and marketing department of the growing business with her husband whom everybody refers fondly to as Ah Leong. So this family business has been handed down to the second generation.

Every single piece of puff is made by hand. Delicious when consumed hot, or fresh from the oven, the puff retain their crispiness even after several hours. Some may find the kaya filling too sweet, but for me, it’s perfect.

If you so happen to come on weekends or public holidays, or a combined stretch of public holidays, then be prepared to wait in line. Especially if the one in front of you decides to go crazy with his/her orders of 100 pieces or more. I'm not exaggerating, it is real because i queued for almost half an  hour that day.

Long queue of customers in the shop

Besides the kaya puffs, they also sell various pastries and biscuits.

Colourful varieties of smaller biscuits  filled with lotus paste/red bean.

They also make ‘Lou Por Peng’ or wife biscuits (literal translation) and ‘Gar Lui Peng’ and a variety of biscuits.
Opens daily from 9.30am to 7pm
